How was Japan in reality to what you had imagined before you arrived?

Before I started my career in Japan, I had anticipated the work atmosphere in Japan to be rigorous and serious. The reality turns out to be partially true. However, the work place here is also full of loving colleagues who are always willing to help.

How would you describe your co-workers?

They are very intelligent, patient and hard-working. Whenever you have any doubt or difficulty with your work, they are always happy to help.

Do you feel like you're having an impact directly on the clients that you work for?

Yes. As part of the firm, everyone's work contributes to the firm's legal services to the clients. It has happened from time to time that the clients changed their decisions upon receipt of our legal advice.

What was the most pleasant surprise you experienced at work?

The most pleasant surprise would be that there are a lot of Chinese working in the Firm!

What were the initial difficulties of adjusting to life in Japan?

The language barrier is certainly the initial problem for life in Japan. But the local people are very hospitable and ready to lend a hand.

When I am not at work, I am

travelling around Japan.

What are the challenging aspects of your work?

The most challenging part for this job is that you are required to work with both quality and speed. While it means that you have to work under pressure sometimes, it also provides you with the opportunities to improve your efficiency and accuracy.

What attributes do you believe will make a recruit succeed at work in the Firm?

A recruit in the Firm is expected to be able and willing to learn the work system and at least the basic knowledge regarding the IP laws in Japan and overseas. To succeed in the Firm, it is also necessary to have team skills since the Firm is operating in a team-based environment.
